Patricia Cornwell on a New England stage
PORTSMOUTH — The Writers on a New England Stage series welcomes #1 New York Times bestselling crime writer Patricia Cornwell with the latest installment in her wildly popular Kay Scarpetta series, DUST, on Thursday, Nov. 14.
The 7:30 p.m. event in The Music Hall’s Historic Theater in downtown Portsmouth includes an author presentation and on-stage interview with Virginia Prescott, host of New Hampshire Public Radio’s “Word of Mouth.” The series’ house band Dreadnaught will play live music during the one hour event.
With the publication of her 1990 debut, Postmortem, Patricia Cornwell changed contemporary crime fiction as we know it. Despite early resistance from publishers who thought the world wasn’t ready for forensics, Postmortem was an instant international sensation. The book, which introduced medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta, won the Edgar, Creasey, Anthony, and Macavity awards as well as the French Prix du Roman d’Aventure in a single year; a feat unequaled by any other author to this day.
