ha ha, maybe you're the one who needs to read other books. The Scarpetta Factor is supposed to be about the good guys, about the characters and how they deal with life, their past and each other in general, so if you want to read the story of the bad guys... get another book!
and fyi... you might want to save your money on the next Scarpetta novel cuz it will probably disappoint you too, since this is the course PC is taking for these characters... I for one, can't wait for it to come out ;-)
Amen to that Denmark. If somebody does not like them, they should read something else. And I did not find it suicidal at all, grammy55. My point is, loads of other writers always seem to make the main characters soooo perfect it is frankly sickening, so I think PC for one tries to make them human. ( not super-human) Another point to grammy55 What is wrong with mid-life crisis? Everybody has to go through it. And as for Lucy's and Berger's relationship I think that you have known for a long time (if you have really read the other Scarpetta books), that Lucy is a lesbian and will envetually find somebody. And as PC writes about lifes of all her main characters you should have seen this comming. I hope Vince Flynn, Jerry Patterson, Sandra Brown, Iris Johannsen, and about 10 other mystery/thriller writers will keep you entertained, coz as Denmark have said the next Scarpetta book will probably disappoint you as well.

Disappointing to see grammatical error (comprised of p.234) from a writer usually meticulous with structure. This error also occurs on the web-site. Happy to proof-read if required.

To Denmark .. you missed my point! I have read ALL of PC's books and have always enjoyed them especially the one on Jack the Ripper and others outside of the Scarpetta books. This one is too dark, depressing and completely caotic. I'm on page 223 and am still trying to find the "bad guys" and the plot. As I said, I am very disappointed in this book and hope she comes out from under whatever dark cloud is storming on her life and find a way to escape from her personal life, just as her reader's do. I read them for entertainment and enjoyment and to learn about new forensics, etc. I feel like someone who is being used as a sounding board for someone who is suicidal but doesn't really want to jump or slit their wrists.
I am looking forward to the next book and hope she can continue the good reads of her other Scarpetta books. By the way, I read Vince Flynn, Jerry Patterson, Sandra Brown, Iris Johannsen, and about 10 other mystery/thriller writers as well.

Sorry Patricia but your new "The Scarpetta Factor" has been a real disappointment! The characters of the "good" guys have become as psychotic (sometimes more so) than the bad guys. Your characters used to be human but strong and focused on fighting and finding the "bad" guys. This book talks more about the mid-life crisis', lesbian drama (which I can REALLY do without entirely) and emotional breakdown of every "good" guy. The book in short is a real disappointment. You emasculate the men and the woman are portrayed as men going through menopause. I am nowing just skipping over all the drama of the good guys and with a microscope trying to find the story of the bad guys. Perhaps you should find some new, fresh good guys that you don't stereo-type into people you find yourself surrounded by in real life.
Lenkster,
Wasn't intended to be funny, reading the series again is a GREAT idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you think there will be any follow-up novels to either Andy Brazil or Win Garano ( spelling? :/ ) . What do you think of this whole movie business?
Hello Ventilatore,
LOL I am starting to read the series all over again today. ;-))))) had enough of depression. :-D Have not read Andy Brazil or Win Garano yet. I think I will give it at go, but not just yet. I also want to read The portrait of the killer that might be interesting. As fo the upcoming movies I don't know if I am going to watch them as the movies always dissapoint. I prefer reading anyway, cos I have got a wild imagination, ( sometimes I think Oh my God I am sooo glad nobody can get inside my head) so it is always very good experiance for me. LOL

I agree with you Mazbaz. I love the fleshing out of all the characters. I really like the intensity of it. I'm glad PC has taken this path.
I'd really like to hear more from Benton about his feelings on how he got persuaded to disappear. It was touched on in the scarpetta factor (which is my favourite) but he's never justified it to Scarpetta. Not really. I can't believe that Marino and Lucy could've and would've colluded. That's the bit to me I find a little unbelievable. I really like the fact that Kay is finally beginning to let herself be comfortable with her relationship with Benton. They are meant to be together - 2 sides of the same coin. I hope they never split up.....
I did find the Marino attack on Scarpetta believable funnily enough. All the frustrations mounting up.
I also get frustrated with inconsistencies too. In the book of the dead, Benton had a bit of an epiphany about Marino as he sat at his desk - after Marino ran away. He realised he didnt ever really take him seriously. Although this is inconsistent with previous novels, sometimes people are friends purely out of circumstance and when that circumstance is no longer there, they realise there is / was no real foundation to the friendship in the first place.
What happened to Dr Zenner? What happened to the Last Precinct and Teun McGovern and Rudy? The training centre in Florida - although something to do with a monsoon.....? As for the ages of all the characters - none of them have ever added up.......

Have almost finished reading the new book and i'm liking it loads better than the last half a dozen,(i.e. since she went third person). At last she is fleshing out some of the story which has just been left hanging, i.e. Benton's six year disappearance and Lucy and Marino's collusion with that. Love Marino being back centre stage, but i think she is struggling with trying to explain her previous plot of him assaulting her, and now bringing him back into the fold. I think for most of us fans that storyline just did not ring true so I for one am glad she has given the man his character back. Also the voice of the perpetrator is gone, which is a tremendous relief. An interesting plot and well knitted together without the leaps and gaps of the previous few books. I still hate the way people just disappear though and are never mentioned again, Rose, her sister, her mum. (unless they are mentioned in the last two chapters), and sometimes her continuity is poor, like now stating Marino and Benton have never been friends after previously describing them as such. Still these are quibbles, in what is a really good read.
