Oh, Angelina Jolie is so WRONG for the part of Kay Scarpetta ! I have read almost every Scarpetta book and have always pictured Kay as quiet, reserved, attractive and strong. Who could take Kay seriously with Angelina playing the part - totally unbelievable ! IIf a "known" actress is important, then I agree that Jodie Foster would be a good choice.. Or Linda Hamilton or Sandra Bullock . And I have always pictured Jennifer Garner in the role of Lucy. The jury is still out on whether I can bear to watch Angelina as Kay Scarpetta!

I think Ange will be great as Kay. She is one of my favorite actresses. Mind you no matter what we think, we wont have any input, on who they cast.

If decision is made it's no point to discuss, but it's such a disappointment... I saw Jolie once it some thriller playing a police officer, and though the idea of the movie wasn't too bad Jolie ruined it completely, her character just seemed ridiculous. It's definitely not her kind of role. Can't imagine her neither as Scarpetta nor as Lucy and certainly won't watch Scarpetta series if she stars, no matter how we all waited for them to be on the screen. The books are too good to spoil the impression.

If I was to choose person to play Kay, I would have chosen PC herself, she'd just fill the bill. If she can learn to handle a helicopter and motorbikes, learn all she knows about forensic medicine etc, why not acting? :)
Guess writing good fiction is much more complicated...

Charlize Theron would have been good. I still think Edie Falco would have been good. Or Diane Lane.

I just wish PC would answer WHY she chose Angelina Jolie!

What about Charlize Theron?? She's proved to be a fantastic actress, and could probably pull off Kay's looks......

My personal opinion here- I am sure that Ms Cornwell is flattered that a name as huge as Angelina Jolie would even consider such a role. And also, perhaps because they might share some political values it is also a flattering choice. Oh, I think Angie will be able to pull it off......and I can think of several other actresses who would do tremendous justice to this role. Or, even better yet, a no name who can really claim this has her own and carries no former baggage.

Finally, britlady, allow us our passion here. We love these books, this character and this author. Its ok.....practice taking some deep breaths.

I just can't believe that so many people are making such a big fuss about this. I tell you what, I will approach PC and see if she will let me play the part.... Will that make you all happy? Or maybe if you wrote your own books and earned the right to make a movie, you would be entitled to make the choice of what actors play the roles. All I am saying is, it's Patricia that wrote these books, she is the one with the talent, shouldn't she be able to decide who plays the characters and how the movie should be written? Or are you all saying that because we pay for the books and read the books we should have a say in what goes on. We all have our own perceptions of who would be good for the parts, doesn't mean that they would be the right choice. If the movie is a flop, then all you folks who are DEAD against Angelina Jolie can come back and say to Patricia I told you so and have your own little gloat fest!!

I too am glad I am not the only person who hates the idea of Angelina playing Scarpetta. Ms. Cornwell please reconsider. Your books are fantastic and can stand on their own in a movie. We do not need someone playing the part of Scarpetta that will take away from the movie itself. With Angelina playing this part all the attention will be on her being in the movie and not the movie itself. Your books deserve alot better than that. Please I beg you, no AJ.
