Okay! I am so pleased to see that my opinion is echoed here. While Jolie may be a decent actress, for SCARPETTA!!!???!!!! What? I have read every book at least twice and I always envisioned a woman such as Glenn Close or Julianne Moore as Scarpetta. Please if you can change things DO IT!!! I won't even rent a DVD of a Scarpetta movie if Angelina Jolie is the lead. The Lucy angle is good because Jolie has the whole guns and tech savvy thing going on, but not for Kay. Who's gonna be Benton? Oh let me guess....Brad?! Seriously....this whole thing vexes me greatly. Pick an unknown or semi-unknown, someone with a Judi Dench or Helen Mirren-like quality. Not that old of course, but you get the idea.

NOOOOOO.....AJ is the worst selection i have ever heard of. Not once when i was reading the series did i ever imagine AJ to be the lead actress. She is just all wrong for the character and will seriously ruin the movie for me. There are a million other characters i can think of that are more appropriate. I BEG of those in charge to seriously rethink this selection....she may be an amazing actress but she just wont do this character and series justice. I love Scarpetta and i couldn't be more disappointed when i should be so excited. I pray someone comes to their senses and changes this decision!!!

yes angelina is a good actress,but i can't picture her as kay, they have a complete different personality.. just looking angelina move her lips and her seducing kind of acting is not a scarpetta anymore... i suggest that let angelina stick to lara croft ok.. lets not push this project for the sake of doing it for the big screen.. Why not choose between JOdie Foster or Gillian Anderson...Im knocking on Miss Patricia Cornwell's heart and mind,,PLEASE! dont do this!

yes,i was suprised too when i heard it.. wow! aj?! as far as i know,scarpetta is smart,and with this corporate look.. and somewhat serious too... not sultry,pouty and seducing type of a woman like aj! if only gillian anderson (tne x-file lady) is the one they pick,il go for 100% ok!

I just hate this choice. Not only do I think AJ is over rated as an actress, I just don't see her as Kay. I know I won't go to see it, even though I've been looking forward to a movie from this series for a long time. I wish Patricia Cornwell would read the posts. I'd say 95% of her DEVOTED FANS are disappointed in this choice. I've been reading these books almost since she first published them. I feel betrayed.

I too was suprised to hear that Jolie was cast as Scarpetta. My first reaction was WHAT. I have read the series and frankly can not see Jolie in that roll.

I was terribly disappointed to hear that Angelina Jolie was cast to portray Kay Scarpetta. I have read all of the Scarpetta books and for years have hoped that they would make them into a movie. However I will not be paying money to see the movie as I refuse to pay my hard earned money for any movie starring Angelina Jolie. I will not pad that #$@%'s pockets with my money. I had heard many years ago that Demi Moore would be protraying Scarpetta, but that never happened.

Hey all. I do not post often but I just scanned this thread and have to say that I like most of you was surprised but Jolie being picked to portray Kay. However, I am very excited for the movie/s. I think that Jolie is 100% capable of doing Scarpetta justice. I have thought about this at great lengths and figured that Jolie was picked for popularity and talent. Jolie is more likely to bring in varied crowds to the movies as compared to Helen Hunt or even Diane Lane, both whom I love.

Most of my questions have to be with the writing of the screenplay, and how much of an role will Cornwell take in the making of these movies. If Cornwell is not close to the making of these movies that worries me more than whoever is casted. It has been my experience that I dislike movies from books where the writer of the book did not play a major role in the writing of the screenplay for said book. :-|

So all this to say I am optomistic and excited.

I am disappointed that Angelina Jolie has been cast as Dr. Scarpetta. I think Sasha Alexander of NCIS fame would fit her to a T. Some one with more class and panash than Angelina. All I think of when I see her is how many foreign children she has adopted....who cares!

I too agree Jolie is wrong for the role of Scarpetta. She is a decent actress but just doesn't fit this role. Isn't Scarpetta's description very petite? I'd envision someone along the lines of Sally Field in this role. A petite, strong,versatile, woman with excellent acting abilities. I don't know maybe this is a box office ploy. Studio execs thinking about big names drawing in big dollars. When in reality they don't have to go that far. Cornwell is a force of her own and wouldn't need any big named star to fill the role to bring in the big bucks. All those studio people have to do is look at the history of what she has accomplished with writing alone.
