Care to elaborate on what kind of turning point you think the gang is at?

Yes she can be self destructive I agree. I suppose there are people who are paranoid and untrusting - in a similar situation to Lucy (although maybe a little less extreme). It must be so difficult to live your life that way and sometimes it's hard to sympathize with her personality when she freezes people out but she's just so damned interesting. I found Scarpetta more realistic but I miss the main characters being 'in action'. To me, the book feels like a turning point for the main players so it's it's gonna be a long wait for the next one!

I think we all hope that Lucy settles down. With her intelligence and personality, a settled Lucy will never be boring!
gotta say, Lucy is my least favorite character......but I love her anyway. She can be frustrating for me, because of her self destructive tendencies.

Lucy is my favourite character and I found the Scarpetta Factor a little frustrating when it came to Lucy and Berger - a pairing that I'd hoped for since the first glimmer in The Last Precinct. As for Lucy, in my POV, she seems to be maturing but also coming to a period of change in her life and it's going to be very interesting to see how it all pans out. I hope to see her more settled but will that also mean she may lose her edge? Maybe you can't have your cake and eat it!!

Well I think Lucy adds a bit of a shall we say "spice" to the series. Thats why the books are soooo different from all the other crime novels I read. She is not perfect..... far from it. She is a bit of a rebel and yes she can be annoying at times. Who isn't???

I'm just glad that Lucy and Marino are friends again after she nearly blew him away in Book of the Dead. They've always had a special relationship throughout the series and it wasn't right that they were enemies even though Marino did the unpardonable.

Lucy bored me again in “The Scarpetta Factor”. Was there even a chapter that included her that was relevant? Again dysfunctional and out of control and it seems now that she is also paranoid. Lucy was great when she was “the niece” she showed us a warm side of Kay which was nice. But, now she does nothing but bring the books down in my opinion. I try to like her, but there is always something that gets under my skin. For example, in this one she is violating the privacy of people she supposedly cares about. Lucy obviously has many issues, so maybe it is not fair to be harsh, but I cringe when I turn the page and it is another chapter with Lucy. Like the one in “The Scarpetta Factor” with her helicopter and paranoid thoughts. This was valuable page space that could have been used constructing the ending. I know many people like Lucy, I just don’t see it.
I also can’t stand being reminded how rich Lucy is on every page. It does not help make her sympathetic. So now she’s a millionaire instead of a billionaire, boo hoo. I know no one deserves to get robed, but give me a break. At least Kay seemed to feel this way, she still has some of the poor kid in her.

Lucy is also my fav. I love Kay but I agree with those that say we've grown up with Lucy. You just never know what she's going to do next-she changes direction in her life often, the one constant is her devotion to Kay.

Lucy is my best as well think Scarpetta is almost too perfect and I think PC did excellent job matching Lucy & Berger together while I really didn't like Teun at least not for Lucy.

You know, as much as I love Kay... Lucy is just my favorite character in the series.
For one thing, we've seen her grow up - its like you actually know her.
Also, she's very conflicted and complex - there's no black and white with her, and that really makes for a more interesting character and allows for character personality growth.
I'm loving the new book, and honestly, it's the insight into Lucy and her reactions and relationships that keep pulling me through.
She's got angst, and I just love a character with angst. :D
